Liberty Property Trust UK, the developer of Kings Hill, has a mission "to enhance people's lives through extraordinary work environments". As part of its developing arts strategy, it commissions public art for the project to help create a sense of place. Liberty founded the Rouse Kent Public Art Award, together with its development partner, Kent County Council, in 1994 - the aim being to encourage others in the County to commission art in the public realm too - www.rousekentpublicartaward.co.uk.
Liberty launched a new art initiative at Kings Hill in collaboration with Arts & Business in Q4 2008. This involved engaging two curators to select art to be exhibited in the lobbies of office buildings - the aim being to bring art to the workplace to enhance employees' working environments.
New exhibitions are installed each quarter to create a fresh and changing environment, which it is hoped will stimulate an interest in art for the employees. The art is available for sale direct from the artists and employees may view examples of the art and links to the artists' web sites via this Kings Hill Art web page. A private view is arranged for each quarter's exhibitions when the wider business community at Kings Hill and businesses in the south east will have an opportunity to visit the project and view the art.
The curators of the exhibitions liaise with Kings Hill businesses and their employees to encourage other arts initiatives, such as engaging an artist in residence. |
